COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES
Hearing Aid and Eyeglass Collecting and Recycling
For decades, we have collected approximately 300 pairs of eyeglasses annually. The used eyeglasses collected in our community help children and adults in developing countries enjoy a better quality of life.
Vision Screening of Young Children
After a pause due to the Covid Pandemic, The Pearl River Lions Club has reinstated annual eye screenings at several pre-schools and grade schools within the Pearl River community
Sunrise Day Camp of Pearl River
Sunrise Day Camp-Pearl River is the world’s first full-summer day camp for children with cancer and their siblings, provided completely free of charge. Sunrise accepts campers and their siblings who are between 3½ and 16 years old who are on active treatment for cancer or have been treated within the past 5 years. The Pearl River Lions Club is a sponsor of the annual Walkathon and hosts other fundraising activities.
Fighting Hunger
Our annual Food Drive supports the local food pantries of Rockland County. We also provide financial support to Meals on Wheels, People to People, and the Martin Luther King Center in Rockland County.
Visions Center on Blindness
Visions Center on Blindness (VCB) is a 37.5-acre year around residential rehabilitation and training center in Rockland County, New York, 35 miles north of New York City in the Village of New Hempstead. Established in 1951, VCB has become one of the largest and most comprehensive overnight training and training
vision rehabilitation facilities in the United States.
Environment Protection
The Pearl River Lions Club supports Keep Rockland Beautiful by participating in the Pearl River Cleanup.
Pearl River High School Scholarship
One $1,000 scholarship is awarded annually to a graduate of the Pearl River High School who is pursuing a career in human services.
